Greetings friends! Welcome back to the festivalPass Stories podcast. This week, Host Pat Tully is joined by three people who are paving the way and opening doors for women in the movie business. It’s our pleasure to introduce the ladies of FLOW Film Festival & Market, Kimberly Douglas, Tiffany Porter, and Alexandra Bello.

Over the last few years, the entertainment industry has been somewhat exposed for its lack of diversity in leadership roles and the mistreatment of women. In fact, the FLOW website highlights these facts with staggering statistics. Only 4% of directors in Hollywood are women, and only 3% are cinematographers, even though 51% of moviegoers are female. These numbers are undoubtedly unfair. Which is why Kim, Tiff, and Alex are working relentlessly to even the playing field.

With 15 years of experience in the industry as an actress and behind the camera, Kimberly Douglas decided that she wanted to start something of her own after an awful encounter on a film set. She met Tiffany Porter at a film festival, who had been in the performing arts as a young child, and had worked in fashion, and music. Together, they founded Florida Leaders Opening Worlds Film Festival and Market (or FLOW). Alex Bello, the Executive Director and President of Marketing of FLOW has developed features and shorts, and has worked as an actress, producer, and director. These three strong individuals are spearheading the FLOW mission, which is, “promoting women in the film industry in non-traditional senior and leadership roles, and the films that employ them."

So, why should you go to, enter, and support the FLOW Film Festival and Market? Simply because you get to experience stories that are hidden gems (movie buffs know that this is what we search for). Entering and being accepted into FLOW guarantees that your film will receive distribution of some kind; a perk that most festivals don’t offer their filmmakers. Also, you will get to meet and network with people that are either aspiring film professionals, or already established in the industry. Lastly, you can be a part of something special…we’re talking to you donors and sponsors! Our guests go into great detail about the festival, and FLOW’s website lists the awards, rules, submission guidelines, etc. The event will take place from September 26th to October 2nd, so get your tickets now!

If you’re out there listening to this podcast and you have a vision that you want to share, submit it to FLOW Film Festival & Market; your project will be in great hands. Enjoy this jammed-packed episode, and we’ll see you next week!

“Everybody has their own little agenda and their own expertise, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. A great team is full of people that compliment each other, and that’s exactly how we’re doing it.” - Alexandra Bello (FLOW Film Festival & Market)
