Maxim Gorky spent the last week of his imprisonment — in Saint Petersburg's Peter and Paul Fortress during the 1905 Russian Revolution — writing "Children of the Sun". The play was banned initially due to its allegorical commentary on Russia, but since its 1905 premiere at the Moscow Art Theater it's been considered among Gorky's most iconic works.
